Vibrant Communities Calgary and several other organizations have been collaborating to discover how we measure what matters and make our data more accessible. We are convening other interested partners to:
    • Identify opportunities to improve the quality and availability of data;
    • Create efficiencies in data sharing; and
    • Influence policy-making with consistent evidence-based well-being metrics.

    • Mount Royal University Institute for Community Prosperity Measuring What Matters - The Institute for Community Prosperity ensures that students and citizens have access to high impact, immersive learning, and to undergraduate community-partnered research opportunities that build their confidence and capacity to lead transformational change in their communities.
    • Vibrant Communities Calgary- Stewards of Enough for All, Calgary’s community driven poverty reduction strategy.
    • The City of Calgary - The Calgary Equity Index (CEI) is a tool to help residents, planners, researchers, and decision-makers identify disparities or equity concerns across Calgary.

    Shared Data Examples

    • MyPeg – Winnipeg Peg is a community indicator system, tracking measures called ‘indicators’ that reflect and measure our city’s well-being. The indicators, developed by a wide variety of stakeholders, are grouped into seven theme areas (basic needs, health, education & learning, social vitality and governance, built environment, economy, and natural environment).
    • Civic Switchboard – data initiative in the US with libraries and civic data – case studies in report
    • National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP) is a learning network, coordinated by the Urban Institute in the US, that connects independent partner organizations in more than 30 cities that share a mission to ensure all communities have access to data and the skills to use information to advance equity and well-being across neighborhoods.
    • Data CO-OP – Australian data initiative that involves social organizations and universities. This is what we are trying to do with the Social Innovation Data Collaboratory at UCalgary.
